3 Weeks Without Smartphones – The Experiment
In the ARD Wissen doc "School Without Smartphones," students—joined by Tobi Krell—embarked on an experiment in the summer of 2026: what impact does three weeks without a mobile phone have on performance and well-being? Around 100 teenagers at an integrated comprehensive school in Rhineland-Palatinate locked their smartphones in a cage for three weeks. They went offline for a set period! Suddenly, Snapchat streaks were lost, *Brawl Stars* rewards were missed—and no one could check their phones to see where their friends were.
A team of researchers monitored the experiment, measuring changes in sleep, physical activity, concentration, and mood. Does three weeks without a phone lead to greater calm and focus—or does it result in boredom, frustration, and conflict? We invite you to join us in a conversation about how much phone usage is actually healthy for your life.
