Saxony-Anhalt is one of the fastest-growing research locations in Germany. The city of Halle is home to renowned scientific institutions such as the German National Academy of Sciences Leopoldina, the Leibniz Institute for Economic Research, two Fraunhofer Institutes, two Max Planck Institutes and the Helmholtz Centre for Environmental Research. Research and teaching also take place at Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg, Burg Giebichenstein University of Art and Design Halle, Anhalt University of Applied Sciences and Merseburg University of Applied Sciences.
