How can science fiction help us better understand our present and future?

Climate disasters, surveillance states, democracies under pressure – dystopias shape our time. Science fiction doesn’t predict the future; it processes contemporary fears, which are then extrapolated. These fears may or may not come true in reality. What is urgently needed are more stories that spread hope instead of fear. In her visually rich and example-filled science fiction lecture, Isabella Hermann opens new perspectives and encourages the development of personal visions. The focus is less on perfect, unattainable futures and more on realistic scenarios in which people, despite adverse circumstances, fight for a better world and truly make a difference.

The political scientist presents anti-dystopias as a source of courage for action.
The new strategy: optimism.

For everyone interested in the future, pop culture, and science fiction.
