Healthy Planet - Healthy People
Keynote, Discussion
How healthy can we humans be if our planet is sick?
Protecting the environment not only guards plants and animals, but also protects us. After all, our health depends directly on stable ecosystems. Climate change, extinction of species, and other global crises therefore make planetary health one of the central challenges of the 21st century.
Using the concept of planetary boundaries, Prof. Johan Rockström highlights where change is most urgently needed and where the greatest potential lies. The focus is on the global food system: While billions of people lack access to healthy food, the system contributes significantly to exceeding planetary boundaries and accounts for about 30 percent of global greenhouse gas emissions.
