Anyone who fears that Facebook, Google, Amazon, and the like are too powerful is right. Digital monopolists are bringing ever-larger parts of our lives under their control. Can we do anything to counter the dominance of the tech giants? “We have to!” says Cologne-based media scientist and author Prof. Dr. Martin Andree.

His alarming scientific findings have led him to leave academia behind to stand up to the tech corporations. The two-part 3sat documentary “Hooray—We’re Hacking the Tech Corporations” follows him on his mission. Together with some surprising allies—a clever kangaroo, a supercomputer, and young tech revolutionaries—he sets out to strike fear into the hearts of the tech giants and help us save our democracy. Between the two episodes, “nano” host Gregor Steinbrenner speaks with Prof. Dr. Martin Andree about the film, his research findings, and his strategy for the future.

About: Prof. Dr. Martin Andree teaches media studies at the University of Cologne. He is the author of nine books. In 2023, his bestseller "Big Tech Must Go!" was published, for which he received the 2024 Günter Wallraff Special Prize for Freedom of the Press and Human Rights.
