workshop

From Event to Broadcast

How does a news broadcast emerge from the daily flood of reports? Which topics are important, what will be the lead story on the 7 p.m. news, which report will become an Instagram post—and what will be featured live on YouTube?

In this workshop, participants will plan a day’s worth of news coverage, select topics, and decide on the appropriate distribution channels. The workshop will also address key questions in journalism: Which sources are reputable and trustworthy? How can information be verified, and how can facts be distinguished from misinformation?

The workshop provides a hands-on look at the work of ZDF’s newsrooms and demonstrates the criteria used to make journalistic decisions, as well as how news for television differs from news for social media. It offers a behind-the-scenes look at the newsroom—and the opportunity to help shape what ultimately goes on the air.
